Angry Birds is like my daily bread, my 4 year old son keeps on talking about it, build "structures" from pillows, tissue boxes and empty boxes he could find around the house, and he even made the slingshot with his cheese strings. Endless possibilities, everything can be structures and don't get me started with the slingshot. My son seems to be quiet when you first meet him, just say the trigger word "angry birds" and the dam would break until you regretted using that trigger word. Oh boy.
When my client asked me to make Angry Birds cake for her daughter's birthday, I did not hesitated. My son was truly happy that I made another Angry Birds cake. And since he's doing pretty good in his "sketching," I let him sketch the structure for me, which he was more than happy to do.
This is my take on a girly version of an Angry Birds. I took the inspiration from the "cherry blossoms" in the game by creating soft pink tone on the cake and adding some blossoms for the girly factor :) Enjoy!

Night Owls
My husband and I are night owls... and also TV freaks. We would watch all of the premieres and decided whether it's worth watching and whether they're going to be picked up or not. There were some heartbreaks before but mostly we got most of them right. We've been patiently waiting for the Game of Thrones to resume the second season on HBO. I finally finished my second book and very much ready to see the book being translated into the screen. I know some of my friends (and clients) share the same sentiments.
Back to the owls, these are a different kind of owls, they're sweet and cute ones! These owls were made for our client whom after our chat, I found out that she was a classmate of my husband back in the university years! What a small world! These owls are for her sister's baby shower.
Congratulations, V and D!

Pretty in Pink!
I am thrilled to be able to do pink cakes this week, due to the fact that I have two boys (and my darling Husband) and I am the only girl in the household. There's no way that I would make pink cakes. The first cake I made was a joint effort between the birthday girl's Mom, who I met through Robert's school and we've been best coffee buddies ever! She baked the cakes and I decorated the cake with her. Of course, my little mister chatterbox kept on talking about his new game, angry birds - knock on wood, in the background while we're doing the cake, but we managed to finish the cake in just about an hour or so.
The second cake is for a little girl who celebrates her one month birthday! It's customary in Chinese/Indonesian tradition to celebrate the one month old baby. We would have a little gathering with our close friends and family, have some yummy food, and of course, some cake! I was pretty bushed at the end of the day and I didn't do a proper "photoshoot" with the cakes. Please forgive my quick and instant "background" for the cake. Hope you all enjoy these cakes as much I did.

First post for 2012!
New Year's resolution: stop making new year's resolution I can't commit. Always fail. *SIGH*
But, aside from that, Sugar Penguin took another step in social networking, we're now on Twitter@SugarPenguin! The reason I don't have twitter is that I don't know what to say and those hashtags? Still no clue. Nevertheless, go and join us on Twitter and get ready to see behind the scene and updates from Sugar Penguin!
I made a promise to my dear sis-in-law that I would make a Snoopy Cake for Xmas get-together. We envisioned Snoopy sleeping on top of his red doghouse, decorated with Xmas lights. Sadly, I was too consumed with my turkey for Xmas, I totally didn't have time to make it. I was still obsessed with making Snoopy, so, I decided to play around a little bit.
The inspiration came from the coke ornament bottle that I bought for hubby at walmart before Xmas. I've been wanting to make a snow globe cake ever since Bakerella made the Coca Cola snow globe cupcake. My Sis-in-law lovessss snow globe, so it's perfect timing to make that snow globe on a cake!
So, here it is!

Happy New Year!
Wishing everyone a(n early) Happy New Year!
It's been a BUSY year for me, with crying babies and countless diaper changes. Many milestones to remember and cherish. Just like each one of the cake created, each told a different story to remember and cherish.
Thank you for making us a part of your special occasion! Have a blessed New Year...
Best wishes from the Sugar Penguin Household :)
